Visiting Victoria

The area of London around Victoria train and coach station has much to offer visitors to the UK’s capital. From lively bars and restaurants to beautiful green spaces, there is something for everyone to enjoy. It is also very easy to get to, whether you are travelling by public transport or minicab. Here are some highlights of the local area, courtesy of TripAdvisor.

Apollo Theatre

The Apollo Victoria Theatre is just minutes’ walk away from Victoria Station and is currently showing the spectacular musical, Wicked, which tells the story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz. Past productions at the Apollo Theatre have included Starlight Express, Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s lavish production that called on the actors to perform on roller skates.

Westminster Cathedral

This beautiful Catholic cathedral may not be as well-known as Westminster Abbey, but it is still well worth a visit to admire the stunning mosaics inside and to spend a moment or two of quiet reflection. Take the lift to the top of the building to admire views across the city or time your visit to coincide with choir practising for their next service of Evensong or Matins. Sublime!

Little Ben

It can be easy to miss Big Ben’s smaller cousin, a delightful cast-iron clock tower located on the intersection at Vauxhall Bridge Road and Victoria Street by Victoria Palace. Little Ben has recently been restored and is well worth stopping by to admire while on your way to a nearby theatre or while looking for somewhere to have a meal.

City Tours

If you still have the travel bug on arrival at Victoria Coach or Rail Station, there are several options for open-top bus tours starting nearby. For example, City Tour London offers a hop on-hop off service with a stop on Vauxhall Bridge Road, while the Big Bus tour can be picked up locally as well.

Victoria Comedy Club

If live comedy is your thing, head over to the Duke of York pub on Victoria Street, where you can enjoy hilarious acts every Tuesday night. Reasonably priced tickets offer a fun night out with the chance to be one of the first to experience new comedy talent.

Buckingham Palace

A short tube ride away gets you to Buckingham Palace, where you can explore some of the opulent rooms that are open to the public and watch the majestic Changing the Guard ceremony most morning – check the website for exact details, plus any updates or cancellations. Near the palace is Green Park – one of London’s beautiful and large green spaces suitable for walks, picnics and fun with the children. If you’re feeling indulgent, why not book tea for two at The Ritz hotel on Piccadilly, just a few minutes’ walk from Buckingham Palace and Green Park?
